On 3rd and 4th October, Green Network Open Days will see 19 properties in the Highlands and Islands open to the public. Visitors will be able to see, first-hand, how installing renewables systems and energy efficiency improvements can help save money on fuel bills
41 green homes and 14 businesses across Scotland are to open their doors to demonstrate how renewables systems and energy efficiency improvements save them money – as well as reduce their carbon footprint.
These free Green Network open days will give the public a chance to take a close look at how the various systems and home improvements work in different types of properties. It’s a unique opportunity to speak to people who are already living and working in greener properties – and to learn from their experiences.
Eighteen homes and one business in the Highlands and Islands are taking part, located in:
- Western Isles
- Black Isle
- Ullapool
- Orkney
- Argyll
- Wester Ross
- Glen Urquhart and Strathglass
A number of technologies – from solar panels, biomass boilers and wind turbines to high performance glazing, smart meters and LED lighting – will be showcased. Specialist advisors will be on hand at many properties to provide advice. There will also be an opportunity, at some locations, to test drive an electric vehicle.
In addition to talking about the systems and improvements themselves, the property owners can also chat about their experience of the installation process.
Mike Thornton, Director of the Energy Saving Trust Scotland, says: ‘The Green Network open days provide a unique opportunity for people in the Highlands and Islands to see various types of energy saving and energy generating technologies working in real homes and businesses.
‘The homeowners and businesses taking part are great ambassadors and can help explain the benefits. The feedback from last year’s event was fantastic and we are hoping even more people will come along and be inspired this year.’
